Congratulations to Things To Look At blog for being, we believe, the first to post photos and a review of the exhibition (apart from us of course, but we have an unfair advantage).

This exhibition would have been much improved by explicit labels, by captions on the huge photographs that usually flitted by too rapidly for comprehension, and by labels on the various parts of the models. Some professional architects may have been able to make sense of what was on display, but the general public, design students, and various interested professionals probably couldn’t. One intelligent visitor observed that this was an attractive exhibition of painting and sculpture, but it is not clear that all this is functional or practical architecture. He said that of course there is an artistic component to architecture; it’s not just building. Nevertheless, without any helpful explanations, it is not clear that there’s sensible architecture here. Instead, there are attractive drawings and sleek sculptural models (not all entirely accurate; I’ve been to Vitra).

I’m curious that there is no mention in the exhibit of Zaha Hadid’s winning entry for the Issam Fares Institute at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
